Hi and welcome to the April edition of "Massage Moves" .

One of the requirements of operating Eastern Suburbs Mobile Massage is balancing the number of therapists and the amount of work coming. Mostly the mix is about right - however as our clientele base grows then we require further quality therapists to ensure that we can cope with most of the demand. For this edition, I have asked some therapists for their perspective on being a mobile massage therapist.

The next draw for the home massage will take place on April 15th. The last winner, Helen of Bondi Junction was delighted with her massage with Amanda
"I was lucky enough to win this massage and I enjoyed every minute of it. I had often wondered what it would be like to have someone come to my apartment and now I know that the experience is so great, I will definitely be booking in again. So convenient and easy."

Wishing you all a happy Easter.

    Best Wishes
Richard and the Eastern Suburbs Mobile Massage team.

    First Trimester and Pregnancy Massage

Many massage therapists are taught that massage is contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy. The reason generally cited is that there is a greater risk of miscarriage during the first trimester and that massage may be an extra risk factor for miscarriage.

However, if someone has a sound pregnancy then as long as proper guidelines for working with pregnant women are followed, there is absolutely no medical evidence to support that by properly giving someone a massage that their pregnancy could be harmed.

    Health Funds and Massage

For many individuals and families, health insurance is essential. However people may think that all health funds are similar in what benefits they offer and the premiums they charge. Yet each fund can pay significantly different benefits for different treatments.

Occasionally we are asked if we provide a HICAPS facility on our mobile massage service. Unfortunately because only a few funds are included with HICAPs at the moment then it is not cost/time effective for us to do so (of the major funds, only Medibank Private is in the scheme). However, as and when more funds come into the system then we will review the viability of being able to offer this service.

Pros and Cons of life as a Mobile Massage Therapist

There are many advantages in being a Mobile Massage Therapist – flexibility of hours, no long term rental commitments, etc. For many therapists the returns from doing mobile work are significantly greater than a clinic based practice.

Several mobile massage therapists have provided their thoughts on what it is to be a mobile massage therapist.
