The newsletter for Eastern Suburbs Massage November 2006
In this issue Great Home Massage Back to Front The Feldenkrais Method
Welcome to the latest edition of Massage Moves.
Not a great deal of news this month - just a reminder that a few of us will be providing massages after the Orienteering Summer Series on 15th November at Robson Park in Haberfield.
Congratulations to the winner of our latest prize draw, Lisa from Rose Bay.
Best Regards.
Richard and the Eastern Suburbs Mobile Massage Team.

Great Home Massage ![]()
Any massage, be it a deep tissue remedial, a swedish massage or a pregnancy massage, should also have relaxation as an objective. Whilst this can be achieved in a clinic, all the therapist's good work can be undone as you jump in the car to drive home. (Not that we are biased) but a home massage just makes intrinsic sense - no re-stressing after de- stressing.
However, to optimise the benefit of a home massage then taking a few minutes to prepare the massage space (and you!) can turn a good massage into a great one!
Back to Front Many of the aches and pains we see as remedial massage therapists are associated with the lower back and shoulders/necks. Headaches, sore necks and stiffness in the lower back first thing in the morning are far too prevalent in our society. However in a significant proportion of cases these aches and pains are merely a symptom and not the cause of the problem. The pain in the muscles at the back of our body is the result of what is happening at the front.
The Feldenkrais Method ![]()
In the last edition we included an article on the Alexander Technique and it's approach in improving posture to reduce the impact of many problems we experience. Another technique which has some similarities to the Alexander Technique is the Feldenkrais Method. The Feldenkrais Method is an educational approach aim at to giving greater functional awareness to the self. The Feldenkrais Method attracts those who want to improve their movement repertoire (eg sportspeople, dancers and artists), and those who wish to reduce pain, increase range of movement, or who want to use the method as a way to improve their well-being and personal development.
