These days the easiest way to find out day spas in your area is to search on-line. Check out the day spa websites in your area and have a look at the type of spa treatments they offer and cost to see if it suits your style and budget.

If you are after a particular service, be it massage, wraps, steam, hydrotherapy, nail care, waxing or a package of treatments then you can make sure that the day spa offers that service.
If the online look of the day spa and it services appeals then give them a phone call. It is possible to find out a lot about the day spa by how courteous, helpful and knowledge the reception staff are. Can they describe the treatments offered or can they suggest that a particular therapist would be the most appropriate for your particular requirements.
Ask if you can make a tour of the spa before booking an appointment. Checking out the changing rooms will see if the day spa provides a safe and clean environment. If a facility is not 100% scrupulous in its cleaning procedures then the wet and body treatment rooms will show it. Ask if pedicure and manicure equipment is sanitised.
See how you and other customers are treated. If the spa is a high volume operation then you may observe the spa servicing lots of group and you may wish to avoid this spa if you have had underwhelming experiences of being processed at a large day spa rather than treated as an individual.
Ask whether the spa’s employees are actually employees or are they independent contractors. Employees are more likely to be ‘singing from the same sheet’ than contractors with respect to philosophy, customer service approach and training.
When you decide to make a booking then an important factor is how comfortable you feel with the therapist(s) who will be working with you. A good therapist should be professional, pleasant and courteous and pay attention to personal boundaries. Treatments should begin at the agreed time. They should be wearing clean clothes and wash their hands prior to touching you. In particular with massage therapy then the therapist should be responsive to the type of pressure and touch you prefer and should take your lead when it comes to the amount of talking during the treatment.
In some day spa the beauticians are on sales quotas. For most people this tends to be a negative factor if you feel that you are being pressured into buy expensive items that you do not want or need. That is not to say that the beauticians should not ask about your home skin-care routine or make recommendations. However you should feel no pressure to being buying from them.
